Party Girl by Rachel Hollis Playlist

Party Girl  Synopsis:

Landon Brinkley is making her dreams come true. After years of poring over glossy photos of celebrity parties in People and US Weekly, she’s landed her Holy Grail: an internship with the fabulous Selah Smith, event planner to the Hollywood elite. Moving from small town Texas to Los Angeles, Landon finds herself in a world in which spending a million dollars on an event – even for kids’ birthdays – is de rigueur. The thrill of working on A-list parties and celeb weddings is enough to get her through the 75-hour workweeks, the nightmare of a multi-day film festival, and abuse at the hands of a mercurial boss. But confronted with the seamy realities of the business, she is forced to make a choice: do whatever it takes to get ahead, or stay true to herself.
A roman a clef in the vein of The Devil Wears Prada, PARTY GIRL draws on the author’s real life experience for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the celebrity-obsessed world of event planning. From the party habits of America’s favorite underage singer to the worst Bridezilla of all (the kind that graces the cover of your favorite magazine), PARTY GIRL reveals the ugly side of Hollywood’s prettiest parties.

Party Girl Playlist

By Rachel Hollis

Having never come up with a book playlist before (especially since this is my first
book!) I’m not sure the specifications so the list below is a mix between songs
that are referenced in the book as well as what I listened to when I was writing it.
Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus – Oh how I wish you could reference song
lyrics in books without paying licensing fees! Originally the book opened with
Landon singing this song in the mirror while getting ready for her first day at
work. It’s so girlie and the exact perfect thing to piss off someone like Max.

I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack – I still laugh thinking of the moment I
wrote this in as Mama’s ring tone. Come one, what’s more appropriate even if it
is a bit cheesy?

Mean by Taylor Swift – This is what Landon listens to while crying off all her
makeup on the way home from work. Originally it was Fighter by Christina
Aguilera but I thought Swifty felt more appropriate for someone Landon’s age.

Scream and Shout by Will.I.Am and Britney Spears – Landon shimmies along
with this one while setting up at the Bar Mitzvah. Anyone who’s ever worked in
events knows the feeling of setting up for a party while the DJ checks the
acoustics in the room. It can sometimes pump you up and sometimes really
annoy you if you’re already frazzled.

Dancing Queen by Abba – Needs no explanation, this is the #1 song on
Landon’s NYE playlist!

The Gambler by Kenny Rogers – One of the songs that Max tries to stump
Landon with… as if she wouldn’t know classic Kenny Rogers!

Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J – Another of the songs from NYE and
this one is based on me. I have everything on my iPod from country to metal to
pop to hip hop and I know all the words… that’s something I gave to Landon
because it always surprises people when I can bust out full rap lyrics… don’t call
it a comeback, I’ve been here for years!

I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston – Last but not least, this
is the song Brody teases her with on New Years and the song she plays on her
phone at the end. It makes me smile every time I hear it!
