Stacking the Shelves - December-ARC suspenses

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga's Reviews, that features books I've received/purchased/borrowed during the current week.
I did pretty good with ARC's this week. I noticed the main theme this week was suspense/mysteries, both Adult and YA. Kelley Armstrong? YAY! Really enjoying Brittany Gibbons; she's hilarious. I'm also dying to read Mason to finish up the series. Sad because it was sooo good.

Release and review of Must Love Lions by Alma Black

Alexis Parrish is very single. Sassy and smart, she's great at her job as a journalist, but it's never given her the time to find the right man--specifically, a human. So when she gets assigned to interview Max, a lion shifter, about the new dating app he's created, she can't believe her intense attraction to him. After all, humans and shifters don’t date. Max is used to causing trouble. He broke tradition by creating the paranormal dating app, Shifter Date, which humans and shifters alike can use to answer the call of the wild.
When Max challenges Alexis to give him a chance, she can't say no. A human like her has no business with this handsome alpha lion, but she can't resist his magnetism. Their chemistry is primal, their connection positively animalistic. After all, once you go shifter, you never go back.
But when a rogue shifter group against interspecies dating targets Alexis, Max will stop at nothing to protect her. It's more than his pride on the line; it's his mate.
Warning: Must Love Lions is a paranormal shape-shifter romance. If sassy, sexy, and carnal reads aren't your thing, this book isn't for you. It contains lots of hot sex, a bit of violence, and a lot of witty banter.
Here is Shifter Date: Must Love Lions Links
Review:
This was a short but fun read by debut author Alma Black. She will quickly make a name for herself in the indie publishing industry with her whitty writing. Must Love Lions was a good story about mates. It wasn't insta-mates. While one knew, it wasn't the overbearing factor in the plot. In other words, the character didn't drivel on and on about being mates. It was acknowledged and Alma moved on.
The main characters Max and Alexis were likeable and kept me interested. While Max was an alpha shifter, he wasn't pushy and dominating to the point everything was about him. Alexis was strong and independent, but she had enough resolve to do some decent things in the book.
There was a good plot with plenty of action. I liked how the influences of predjudice weren't one-sided. It wasn't shifters hating humans or humans hating shifters. Both were present and the acts of a few aimed to keep with the current ways while others worked to bridge the gap between species.
Overall, I enjoyed Must Love Lions and you will too! It's a good shifter romance that stands apart from so many others in this genre. Steamy, mysterious, and romantic-this book has it all. Five glittery stars!
Also, kudos to the author for adding some extra fun at the end of this novel. By clicking the link at the back of the book, you are signed up for Alma's newsletter on future releases AND get to read an exclusive epilogue just for subscribers. Hint: It was sooo worth it! She also created a simulated Shifter App quiz for a bit of fun and the link is also in the back of the book!

About the Author:
Alma Black loves to write, and write and write. She is especially fond of sexy, paranormal stories where the hero has a penchant for growling and the sassy heroine doesn’t put up with any bark. These stories are fast reads and are funny, sexy, and very naughty.
Alma lives in Los Angeles, and wishes with all her heart that there was paranormal dating app that had eligible mates in Southern California. Until then she uses regular dating sites to bring you these stories, inspired by her actual dating life.

Waiting on Wednesday-The Turn by Kim Harrison

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine which spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.
This week I’m waiting on:

The Hollows series by Kim Harrison is one of my all-time favorite of all time. I'm having withdrawal symptoms after finishing the very last book. Even read the crossover book with her new series-Waylaid. When I found out about The Turn, I was pumped!

Book: The Turn (The Hollows #0.1)

Author: Kim Harrison

Release Date: January 26, 2017

Kim Harrison returns to her beloved Hollows series with The Turn, the official prequel to the series that will introduce fans and readers to a whole new side of Rachel Morgan's world as they've never seen it before!
Can science save us when all else fails?
Trisk and her hated rival, Kalamack, have the same goal: save their species from extinction.
Death comes in the guise of hope when a genetically modified tomato created to feed the world combines with the government's new tactical virus, giving it an unexpected host and a mode of transport. Plague takes the world, giving the paranormal species an uncomfortable choice to stay hidden and allow humanity to die, or to show themselves in a bid to save them.
Under accusations of scientific misconduct, Trisk and Kal flee across a plague torn United States to convince leaders of the major paranormal species to save their supposedly weaker kin, but not everyone thinks humanity should be saved.
Kal surreptitiously works against her as Trisk fights the prejudices of two societies to prove that not only does humanity have something to offer, but that long-accepted beliefs against women, dark magic, and humanity itself can turn to understanding; that when people are at their worst that the best show their true strength, and that love can hold the world together as a new balance is found.

It wasn't a busy week for books, but I hit the library up hard! Lots of audiobooks! I love Alyssa Rose Ivy so I had to pick up her new Christmas one. I just finished Ask Me and it was pretty good!
