Review of the Next Forever by Lisa Burstein

Description:

One night in college can change everything…

Away at college, Amy just wants one night alone without her high school sweetheart, Joe. So when he invites her to go to the library, she heads off on her own instead. How she ended up at a house party with the mysterious bad-boy Trevor is another story…

Joe so isn’t going to the library. He needs space from Amy, too, so he’s decided to rush a fraternity, to get back the swagger he had in high school. But it doesn’t take long for the brothers to invite him to the real rush here the beer is flowing and one particular girl has set her eyes on Joe.

Over the course of one wild night, both Amy and Joe will have to decide if their futures belong with two new people, or whether the next forever will have their first loves in it.

Review:
This book was a little confusing for me.  I got this book for review and it sounded pretty good so I was anxious to read it.  Throughout the whole book, I felt like I was in the middle of something and I wasn't in the loop.
Let me just say that I am not a fan of novellas.  I didn't know when I picked it up that it was one.  Also, The Next Forever turned out to be a sequel to Pretty Amy by Lisa Burstein.  I never read that one, so now I understand my confusion.
This would be a great novella if I knew it was a sequel going into it.  The POV alternated between Joe and Amy.  I found their dialogue endearing and their characters likeable.
I enjoyed the story itself and how the situation resolved itself in the end.  Overall, this was an enjoyable story that I would recommend to fans of Pretty Amy.  This novella gets three glittery stars!

Book one:

 Description:

Amy is fine living in the shadows of beautiful Lila and uber-cool Cassie, because at least she’s somewhat beautiful and uber-cool by association. But when the girls get stood up for prom and take matters into their own hands—earning them a night in jail outfitted in satin, stilettos, and Spanx — Amy discovers even a prom spent in handcuffs might be better than the humiliating “rehabilitation techniques” now filling up her summer. Even worse, with Lila and Cassie parentally banned, Amy feels like she has nothing — like she is nothing.

Navigating unlikely alliances with her new coworker, two very different boys, and possibly even her parents, Amy struggles to decide if it’s worth being a best friend when it makes you a public enemy. Bringing readers along on an often hilarious and heartwarming journey, Amy finds that maybe getting a life only happens once you think your life is over.

Book 2:

 Description:

What if the last place you should fall in love is the first place that you do?

You’d think getting sent to Turning Pines Wilderness Camp for a month-long rehabilitation “retreat” and being forced to re-live it in this journal would be the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.

You’d be wrong.

There’s the reason I was sent to Turning Pines in the first place: I got arrested. On prom night. With my two best friends, who I haven’t talked to since and probably never will again. And then there’s the real reason I was sent here. The thing I can’t talk about with the guy I can’t even think about.

What if the moment you’ve closed yourself off is the moment you start to break open?

But there’s this guy here. Ben. And the more I swear he won’t—he can’t—the deeper under my skin he’s getting. After the thing that happened, I promised I’d never fall for another boy’s lies.

And yet I can’t help but wonder…what if?

  1. Yeah, that would be hard to read a prequel of something you didnt read first. Plus, not knowing any of this must have thrown you off. Happy you enjoyed some of it though.
