Sunday Swoon #21 - Amy Bartol

Today, I get to share a few snippets from a book I love! no spoilers!
If you have never read an Amy Bartol book, you must! She is a master at writing epic romance and conflicting loves. This is her newest series, science fiction steeped with romance.
The books in the Kricket series so far:
Kricket Hollowell is normally not one to wish upon stars; she believes they’re rarely in her favor. Well versed at dodging caseworkers from Chicago’s foster care system, the past few years on her own have made Kricket an expert at the art of survival and blending in. With her 18th birthday fast approaching, she dreams of the day when she can stop running and find what her heart needs most: a home.
Trey Allairis hates Earth and doubts that anyone from his world can thrive here. What he’s learning of Kricket and her existence away from her true home only confirms his theory. But, when he and Kricket lie together under the stars of Ethar, counting them all may be easier than letting her go.
Kyon Ensin’s secrets number the stars; he knows more about Kricket's gifts than anyone and plans to possess her because of them. He also knows she’s more valuable than any fire in the night sky. He’ll move the heavens and align them all in order to make her his own.
When everything in their world can be broken, will Kricket rely upon love to save her under different stars?

“You have dangerous curves—you are very female in all the right places, more hips, more glutes, breasts,” he rattles off, breaking down my physical attributes and making me grit my teeth. “You have a beautiful face, too. And the way you move—stealthy, like a saer, is so very polar.” “You like my swagger?” “You have presence—magnetism,”

“My desire for him is insane. He’s not sentimental—neither of us is—and yet he says things to me that strike at the core of my being and speak to the fighter in me. He makes me crave him in the most vulnerable way. I can’t lose him—ever.”

“I have a paper heart and he has written notes all over it.”

“I’m the dark secret that he can’t keep hidden—his crossed fingers—his hold-my-breath-to-keep-from-feeling. But I make him feel everything.”

“What do you want to risk to get away?” he asks. I swallow past the bile corrupting my throat. “Everything,” I reply. “I’ll risk everything to stay with you.”

“this doesn’t work out for us, Kricket, know that I’ve loved you from the moment I held you in my arms on Ethar, and every moment in between. I will love you even after my final breath.”

“She’s a loner. She pays her own way. She is someone who doesn’t know her place, or if she does, she doesn’t abide by the rules. She’ll see right through your lies. She’ll steal your heart without even trying. She’ll blink at you with a million whispers in the night while she holds your hand as if she’s the only one who fits it right. You’ll want to carry her bones inside your bones.”

“I’m not in love with him. I would never call it that. It’s more of a growing fascination with him. He’s unlike anyone I’ve ever known, but he’s maladjusted and broken—unpredictable and frightening.”
