ARC AUGUST- All August, All the ARC'S

http://www.readsleeprepeat.org/
It's the annual ARC August hosted by Read, Sleep, Repeat! That means this month, I will focus on reading and reviewing the ARC's stacking up in my Kindle library.

ARC August is a month long event in which we, as book nerds grab all the shiny without thinking, tackle all those ARC that have been piling up. These can be eARCs, physical ARCs, unsolicited, trade show ARCS (BEA/ALA/etc), ARCs that released months (cough -years) or ARCs that aren’t releasing until May of 2016! You read YOUR ARCs, at YOUR pace! The object is to get that pile down. If that means you only read one ARC for the month guess what? That’s one less book in that pile! If you obliterate your pile and there is nothing left by the 20th? Best excuse to go request more! I want this to be a LOW pressure, HIGH fun event. I want there to be no “I failed so hard” tweets or thoughts. I want you to have fun and bask in every single page you manage to finish.

I have so many ARC's sitting, that some of them have already released. I probably won't get all these read, but I'm a moody reader, so it's a toss up, what I pick up next. Here is my list of ARC's that I will choose from for my ARC August challenge!

I have 17 listed here and have already read an additional two this month!

Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep

There Be Monsters Here. . .

It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America." Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power.

I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.

But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call--get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her. . .

Menagerie by Rachel Vincent

From New York Times bestselling author Rachel Vincent comes a richly imagined, provocative new series set in the dark mythology of the Menagerie…

When Delilah Marlow visits a famous traveling carnival, Metzger's Menagerie, she is an ordinary woman in a not-quite-ordinary world. But under the macabre circus black-top, she discovers a fierce, sharp-clawed creature lurking just beneath her human veneer. Captured and put on exhibition, Delilah in her black swan burlesque costume is stripped of her worldly possessions, including her own name, as she's forced to "perform" in town after town.

But there is breathtaking beauty behind the seamy and grotesque reality of the carnival. Gallagher, her handler, is as kind as he is cryptic and strong. The other "attractions"—mermaids, minotaurs, gryphons and kelpies—are strange, yes, but they share a bond forged by the brutal realities of captivity. And as Delilah struggles for her freedom, and for her fellow menagerie, she'll discover a strength and a purpose she never knew existed.

Renowned author Rachel Vincent weaves an intoxicating blend of carnival magic and startling humanity in this intricately woven and powerful tale.

Flight by Charlene Moncrief

18 year-old socialite Camille Vanderhale’s life is not going the way she had planned. Her days are normally spent attending one vapid social event to another. Ballroom galas, charity auctions at the Met and afternoon tea with New York’s elite is how she spends most of her time. The Vanderhales are American Royalty and she is the perfect gilded princess. Between her countless social obligations, and watching over her partying

16 year-old sister and best friend, Noelle, her path is clear and her destiny certain.

But Camille’s perfectly predictable life is turned upside down when she develops supernatural abilities, abilities she can’t explain. It’s a secret Camille has to keep safe, even from Noelle. All of that confusion is brought to a halt when she meets a mysterious stranger, Xavier Williams. His unusual sense of calm and tranquility stills the storm that is her life. But Xavier’s got his share of secrets too, secrets that are going to affect her in ways she never imagined possible.

Unfortunately for Camille, developing these superhuman powers isn’t her only problem. The history books she studied in school about the birth of our nation, and her family’s role in it, couldn’t have prepared her for the truth: the Vanderhales are part of a century’s old secret society consisting of America’s most prominent families, with dark intentions and even darker secrets hidden in their history.

All that Camille’s ever known, all that she’s ever believed in, has been a lie. Camille must make a choice – choose the path that has been destined for her and continue her family’s legacy, or choose the path less certain. Either decision could cost her greatly, maybe even her own life.

A is for Alpha Male by Laurel Ulen-Curtis

I’m Haley Whitfield, and I recently had the ingenious idea to enlist my mother, Allison, as my kick*ss sidekick and set out on a road trip.

This road trip wasn’t to be just any road trip, but a very special one indeed. An adventure with an acutely specific purpose-- to find our other halves. The peanut butter to our jelly. The i to our Phone. The stripper to our pole.

If our romantic desires were a personal ad, they would read something like this.

** Two sassy women (Ages twenty-seven and forty-nine respectively--Ouch. Okay, ages twenty-seven and thirty--with nineteen years experience-- respectively) seeking Alpha Males to love us with zeal and kiss us with skill. Gorgeous face and sexy, tattooed, hard body a must. If you aren’t a dangerous bad*ss with the x-rated skills and virility to match, don’t bother. Must be willing to protect us from danger, value our quirkiness, and keep your mouth shut when said quirkiness is what leads to said danger. Momma’s boys named Dan Smith need not apply.**

I know. It’s a bit wordy. In fact, it would probably cost a fortune. Luckily, we’re not ready for the personal ad. We’re not that desperate...yet.

This is my story.

Warning: Some explicit language and sexual content.

If I Could Turn Back Time by Beth Harbison

The next hilarious and heartwarming novel from bestselling author Beth Harbison

What if your thirtysomething self woke up in the body of your eighteen-year-old self?

Thirty-six year old Ramie Phillips has led a very successful life. She made her fortune and now she hob nobs with the very rich and occasionally the semi-famous and enjoys luxuries she only dreamed of as a middle-class kid growing up in Potomac, Maryland. But lately Ramie has begun to feel a little…empty.

On a boat with friends off the Florida coast, Ramie tries to fight her feelings of discontent with steel will and hard liquor. No one even notices as she gets up and goes to the diving board and dives in. So no one notices when she hits her head on the board on the way down…

She wakes some time later with a throbbing headache and something beeping next to her. A heart monitor? Is she in the hospital, head wrapped sarcastically, like some amnesiac woman in a Lifetime movie? She strains to understand a voice calling in the distance: “Wake up!” It’s her mother. “You’re going to be late for school again. I’m not writing a note this time…”

Told with Beth Harbison’s wit and warmth, The Time of My Life is the fantasy of every woman who has ever thought, “If I could go back in time, knowing what I know now, I’d do things so differently.”
